25th May 2014 Rhos on Sea

So myself and my partner in crime were joined by a couple of novices on Rhos on Sea prom The weather was wet if not too windy and the sky very overcast. We all fished one hook flappers with either peeler or lug. We were rewarded with a few pin whiting and a fish we were unsure of but have it down to a small codling/poor cod/pouting. Its body shape didn't look like any of the usual for these but it did have a tell tale barb below its lip. We gave up about an hour after high tide as we were cold and wet and I snapped yet another rod ring - that's two rods with the same ring affected - ah well nice weather on the way I hope so as soon as I repair both of my beach casters then we shall away.

Rhos 29/30 april

So after a disappointing session at the Foryd we took on Rhos on Sea for the night session. The bulldozers were working away on the second phase of the new sands and a lot of fishing spots are also blocked off by boulders so we settled for the only section of Rhos fishable. All night we were pulling in pin whiting with a fair number of decent sized ones thrown in and a little after midnight I struck into an angry doggie...Decent size and full of fight he went home. We used frozen and fresh fishbait, frozen and fresh lug and frozen and fresh peeler... fair to say we could have stuck anything on and caught tonight.

Foryd 29/4

Today a friend and I fished the Foryd or the Blue Bridge between Rhyl and Kriminal Bay. This is the mark I learnt to sea fish and where I have my personal best eel from so holds a special place in my heart. We both fished flapper rigs mine being double hooked with smallish hooks baited with lug and peeler - this didn't work on this occasion and my friend single hook flapper with lug and peeler alternated also blanking. It was a lovely day and we both caught the sun but enjoyed the day none the less. Tonight is the midnight tide at Rhos on Sea and hopefully the south westerly will bring the fish in.

Conwy Harbour

Yesterday myself and a friend decided to take a trip to Conwy Harbour as our favourite marks were currently experiencing works to their defences.

We chose to fish the semi circles which protrude slightly into the harbour on the Llandudno Junction side just before the bridge. Single rods and flapper rigs we tried lug and king rag to no avail but I did have a little flounder to about 2lb to our favoured peeler crab. The side wind was terrible and bites and tightening up was near impossible. Another lad fished the same mark on some spare king rag we gave him also to no avail.

This was our first session out this year but I feel we will be trying more marks up and down the coast rather than staying close to home as I have heard some good night reports come in from Llandudno and Rhyl and the Dee Estuary.

Tight lines and be safe
